Jasper man seriously injured after being struck by a car on Hwy 190

Just before 12:45 Wednesday afternoon, First Responders were dispatched to Hwy 190 West of Jasper for an Auto-Pedestrian accident.


Jasper Police Lieutenant Garrett Foster said that the victim has been identified as 41-year-old David McCanelley was walking west on Hwy 190 close to the Jasper County Cowboy Church. 


A westbound 2023  Nissan Rogue driven by 50-year-old Carisa Lane struck McCanelley who was seriously injured. McCanelley was life flighted to a hospital believed to be in the Houston area. 


What caused the vehicle to strike McCanelley at this time is still unclear and under investigation.


The Jasper Volunteer Fire Department responded with several engines and personnel to help temporarily reroute traffic while Jasper PD investigated the incident.
